Charles G. Mayo (1931-1985) served as President of West Chester State College from 1974-1982. Prior to leading WCSC, Mayo was the Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Southern California. WCSC had just been censured by the AAUP when Mayo assumed his presidency of the institution; the circumstances of his firing eight years later led to another AAUP investigation and censure. S. Elizabeth Tyson (1896-1991) was an assistant English professor at West Chester State Normal School, the West Chester State Teachers College (name changed in 1927), and West Chester State College (name again changed in 1960) from 1922-1962 and developed one of the first speech clinics in the United States.
